Today I’m going to share our rock candy
experiment. Last Thursday, I went on a mission
to gather all the supplies that we would need
to do this. The “experiment” was almost a bust
before it could even get started good when Ryan
came home sporting his “frowny” for the day. I
just wasn’t willing to throw the plan under the
bus… after all, it wasn’t ME who got in trouble,
right?! Anyway, after a little coaxing, I managed
to convince my “other half” that this was an
EXPERIMENT, and he was absolutely depriving
his child of a learning experience… sooo,
WE MADE ROCK CANDY!! :)
I’ve never done this before, but always thought
that it would be fun, and with Ryan’s incredible
love of anything sugar, I knew this would be perfect for us to do together. I am not going to give a step
by step today, but if you want to try this with your
kiddos too, you can find a great tutorial on
Science Bob. This does take about a week to fully
complete, so I plan on sharing photos of our
“final product” once they are finished. For now,
here are some photos of our progress...
We used LorAnn oil based flavoring:
We chose Cotton Candy and Strawberry.
Side Note: If you have never used oil based
flavoring, it is VERY concentrated. Just
remember that a little will do it! I have a
small dropper and I only fill it about 1/3 full.
When I checked yesterday, we already had tons
of crystals (or "rocks") growing, so stay tuned...
